Danskin Women’s Triathlon

For the eight consecutive year, Group Health was the medical sponsor of the 2010 Danskin Women’s Triathlon on August 15th, providing all of the medical supplies and support for the event. It was a sunny and warm morning at Genesee Park in Seattle when over 3,300 women swam 1/2-mile, biked 12-miles and ran 3-miles as part of the sprint triathlon. Over 30 Group Health staff members volunteered in the medical booths and the Group Health marketing booth at the finish line. Approximately 20 Group Health staff and members participated in the Danskin this year. Check out the video, featuring a couple of our amazing ladies.

Teddy Bear Clinic!

Group Health hosted a Teddy Bear Clinic at Mobius Kids Science Center in Spokane on August 12.  The clinical team was led by Group Health pediatrician, Dr. Cicely White, along with Dr. Nalini Gupta and medical student, Hannah Qualls.  Modeled after Dr. Rob Nohle’s very successful Teddy Bear Clinic at KidsQuest Children’s Museum in Seattle, the idea is to alleviate any fears children may have about going to the doctor.  Children bring their teddy bears for a check-up and get to assist with the examination.  Ears, nose, throat and fur is checked along with height and weight of the bear; an urgent care repair station completes the visit (if needed).

8 Lakes Bike Ride in Spokane

Group Health was the presenting sponsor of the 8 Lakes Bike Ride in Spokane on Saturday, August 7.  Participants could choose to ride a 30-mile course, 45-mile course, or 75-mile course. Over 20 Group Health medical riders supported the ride while several other GH employees  staffed two first-aid booths at the start/finish line and along the route. Just another event supported by the capable hands of Group Health medical staff!

Group Health a finalist in Puget Sound Business Journal's Best Workplaces – PHOTOS

More than 50 staff from all over Group Health gathered in our awesome green shirts at Safeco Field, Thursday, Aug. 12 with more than 80 other companies to celebrate being a finalist in the Puget Sound Business Journal’s Best Workplaces in Washington contest.

The Puget Sound Business Journal Best Workplaces contest, now in its fourth year, identifies the area’s top employers through composite scores from a random, individual staff survey.

This year over one fifth of our staff voted in the survey. Ratings factors included team effectiveness, trust in leaders, feeling valued, and work engagement.

As you can tell from the photos below, we definitely had a presence at the event!

Group Health Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic!

What a weekend for Group Health! As the title sponsor of this awesome Cascade Bicycle Club event, we really showed what we’re made of with an amazing presence from start to finish.

It was an early, early Saturday morning as STP participants left the UW headed south (we are talking 4 – 5 a.m.!). About 70 Group Health staff members and family members were part of the mass of cyclists embarking on the 200-mile journey. Not to mention about 25 Group Health medical riders who cruised the route and were right in the mix as first-responders if anyone needed first-aid assistance.

Over 60 Group Health medical volunteers lined the route with first-aid locations in Kent, Spanaway, Centralia, Lexington, St. Helens and at the finish line in Portland.

A handful of ambitious soldiers powered through the ride in one-day, finishing on Saturday afternoon/evening…while the sane folks finished on Sunday afternoon. ;)

Including the hydration station and marketing volunteers holding down the booths in Portland, Group Health had a contingent of over 200 people supporting and participating in the 2010 Group Health Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic. Quite a showing!

A BIG thank you to all of the volunteers…and huge congratulations to all of the riders. What an accomplishment!! Check out some great photos below. And click here to see the STP Picasa Album.

CDA Ironman Triathlon

I was there as a volunteer handing out food and gel packs on the run course. After being a support person for my son the last two years, it was the next step to volunteer and cheer everyone on!

Scott Armstrong: CEO/Triathlete!

Check out this great photo of our fearless leader and his wife, Sarah, as they cross the finish line at the Issaquah Sprint Triathlon in late May.  Stay tuned for more photos of Scott and Sarah getting active out in the community. Next endeavor for the Armstrongs? The Group Health Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic, coming up July 17-18. GO SCOTT!

Group Health staff rock the marathon

More than 30 Group Health volunteers staffed a first-aid tent headed by sports medicine specialist Rosemary Agostini, MD, at the Seattle Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon on Saturday, June 26. Many more completed the full or half marathon, some for the first time. I encourage all who ran to please upload their photos and stories too.
